New Year Concert
The New Year Concert annually held at Trafalgar Square in Central London is a traditional way for London citizens to celebrate the New Year, where the great performers of London Symphony Orchestra always bring a strong festival atmosphere with classic and bright symphonic melody. Recently, the popular cultural landmark, Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu, will also hold a music show to greet the New Year. At 19:30 on December 31, the national-level troupe, China Oriental Symphony Orchestra, will present a tremendous New Year square concert with more than 60 performers led by the famous conductor Chen Hongjing at the East Plaza of Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu.
It is reported that this concert will be divided into three parts, i.e. “Classical Symphony”, “Opera Collection” and “Waltz Ball”. In the first part, Light Cavalry by Franz von Suppé, Annen Polka and Tritsch Tratsch Polka by Johann Strauss, and The Fifth Of Hungarian Dances by Brahms and other classical operettas will be played, while in the second part, O Sole Mi, Carmen, The Lady of Camellias, Turandot and other classical operas will be presented by male’s solo, female’s solo and antiphonal singing. In the third part, accompanied by the Voice of Spring and Blue Danube by Johann Strauss, 12 waltz dancers will circle around on the East Plaza of Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu to present a grand show for us. The whole East Plaza will look like a fascinating European style “urban theater square”. Under the constantly changing light and shadow that create a warm festival atmosphere, two classical British-style MINIs will appear at the plaza to enrich the British mood.
Now, Chen Hongjing is the head, Music Director and Chief Conductor of Oriental Symphony Orchestra of China Oriental Performing Arts Group. His conduction is described by critics as “skilled, concise and clean in gestures, sincere, fine and meticulous in music processing, and extraordinary -- particularly unique in grasping the characteristics and internal charm of his works.”
China Oriental Symphony Orchestra is a national-level symphony orchestra affiliated to China Oriental Performing Arts Group and also the first symphony orchestra of joint-stock system in China. The works it has played include the excellent pieces of different composers of different countries from the 17th century to the 20th century, such as Carmen, Gianni Schicchi, Jiangjie, Wutongyu and other domestic and foreign operas. The Orchestra is committed to supporting artists in creation, musical education and music popularization, and has presented various forms of symphony concerts such as Romance & Symphony Concert for Classical Movies and Classical Multimedia Symphony Concert for Chinese and Foreign Movies.
It is reported that this New Year Square Concert will be open to citizens free of charge, where classical music fans can experience an unusual night to greet the New Year.
